Don’t you just love spending time outdoors when the weather is nice and warm here in the Bay State? Camping is always a great option to maximize your time outside in nature and if you’re an avid camper, you probably have some favorite camping spots around the state. And if you already didn’t know, Winter Island Park in Salem has an exceptional campground with some glorious waterfront sites, amenities, and attractions that may make this your new favorite place to camp.
Winter Island Park is a 27.1-acre park on the Salem Neck peninsula separating the Beverly and Salem Harbors. Its unique location and history make this a one-of-a-kind place for camping.
Among the historical attractions at the park are the 17th-century Fort Pickering where the frigate Essex was built, a WWII Navy-Coast Guard Barracks, and a 1934 airplane hangar. Winter Island is on the National Register as a Historic District and Archaeological site.
If you come to Winter Island Park for camping, you'll have convenient access to the historical sites as well as the water and many recreational opportunities.
Within the campground are 28 RV sites and 22 tent sites. Each RV site has a water hookup, a picnic table, and is either 50-AMP or 30-AMP. Each of the tent sites has a charcoal grill and picnic table.
Several RV sites are waterfront, while some campsites have water views, and others are set a bit further back. But no matter which campsite you book, you'll be surrounded by the incredible beauty that Winter Island Park offers.
