Plan A Picnic At The Charming Eastham Windmill Park In Massachusetts
Massachusetts isn’t lacking in gorgeous sparks and green spaces, but not all of them can boast of having one of the world’s oldest windmills. This small park on Cape Cod is an absolutely dreamy place to kick back and enjoy the sunshine, especially if you bring along a picnic basket. Here are the details.

Eastham Windmill was built by Thomas Paine in Plymouth 1680 and was eventually moved to Truro and then Eastham in 1793. As you might expect, this windmill is on the official National Register of Historic Places. It’s the oldest windmill on Cape Cod and one of the oldest in the country.

The windmill sits in a lovely little park that’s just perfect for stretching out and relaxing, not to mention picnicking. Locals and visitors alike love to head to the park with picnic blankets and goodies in tow, as the grass is always kept beautifully green and it’s definitely not as crowded as some of the larger and better-known Cape Cod parks. If you’re curious about the inner workings of the mill, you can head inside to check out the machinery that makes it go. And it’s all free!

If you’re looking for the best time to enjoy this pretty spot, head to the park on Eastham Windmill Weekend. It’s a yearly local festival that’s been going on since 1977 and takes places the first weekend after Labor Day. Everything from live music to family activities and games will be on offer, as well as an awesome parade, scavenger hunt, and vehicle show. The 2019 dates are September 6, 7, and 8.
