1. Umpachene Falls, New Marlborough
If you’re looking for a waterfall you can really splash around in, Umpachene Falls in New Marlborough is it. This stunning forest cascade features a wide, shallow pool and gentle stone steps that make for a great spot to lounge in the water or sunshine.
2. Chapel Brook Falls, Ashfield
This charming swimming spot is located in Chapel Brook Reservation. The waterfall drops about 45 feet into a low pool, which tends to stay pretty cool throughout the summer. If you’d rather wade in warmer waters, check out the smaller pools downstream.
3. Bear’s Den Falls, New Salem
The Swift River tumbles into a clear forest pool at Bear’s Den Falls. You can access this spot via a quick, quarter-mile hike through the woods. This waterfall is ideal for wading and splashing. You can also explore the nearby ruins of an old mill.

Tannery Falls plunges 80 feet down a series of rocky ledges in Savoy Mountain State Forest. This is more of a wading spot than a swimming spot, but those brave enough to approach cascade and douse themselves in the rushing water. You can reach the waterfall via a 20-minute hike through the woods.
7. Peck Falls, Adams
This little cascade feeds two pools. The upper pool is perfect for splashing and wading, while the lower pool is a bit shallower. The upper pool can be reached vial a 15-minute hike from the parking area off Gould Road.
