Puffers Pond is a beloved Amherst local swimming hole, and deserves to be on everyone’s radar. With a sandy beach, excellent hiking trails and a magnificent cascade, this place has enough going on to keep you busy (and happy) all summer long.

If you're looking for a place that combines the best of the woods, water and beach, Puffers Pond is it.
The pond is fed by Mill River, which spills over a dam and creates a gorgeous cascade.

Over the past two years, over $37,000 has been spent in improving the pond area. New fencing and parking has been installed, and the swimming areas have undergone a cleaning as well.
The pond itself is filled with exceptionally clean, clear and fresh-smelling water.

Spread a beach blanket and lounge, or take a refreshing dip. The shallow areas stay pretty warm, while the deeper sections are cooler. The depth ranges from an average of 5 feet to a maximum of 20 feet.
This spot is great for runners, or for those who just want to have a bit of a ramble in the woods.

The soft earth and shady trails make jogging or walking around and above the pond a very pleasant experience.
If you choose to walk the trails, you'll find multiple spots along the pond to slip into the water and cool off.

The trails around the pond are long enough to give you a bit of fresh air and exercise, but not so long you won't be able to complete the loop in a leisurely hour or so.

There isn't a lifeguard on duty, so young children should be supervised.
Bring a few beach chairs and snuggle up with your loved ones or furry friends. The pond is beautiful at sunset.

About 200 feet of the trails around the pond are accessible for people in wheelchairs and are ADA compliant, so everyone can enjoy the beauty of the area.
If you want even more privacy, go to Puffers Pond in the off season. There are plenty of reasons this spot is perfect in the fall.

The autumn foliage is absolutely stunning, and the little streams running through the forest across the road are enchanting.
There's a small parking lot available for use, as well as a mobile restroom.

A few rules and regulations are in effect. Dogs must be leashed, and are permitted to swim in Cushman Brook or downstream in the Mill River. Trespassing near the dam is not allowed, nor is cliff jumping.
Puffers Pond is open from 6 a.m. until dusk. Stop by for an hour, or hang out all day. You'll have a great time either way.
