One of the best ways to appreciate the state of Massachusetts is by getting outside and looking around at all the incredible beauty that surrounds us. For many of us, just stepping outside our homes means an amazing view. But even if that’s the case, there’s something special about making a dedicated trip to the outdoors. This trip, to a lovely state park, features a short hike to a waterfall and you can make the journey in an afternoon.
Head to the town of Dalton and you'll find Wahconah Falls State Park, a lovely Massachusetts gem that can sometimes be overshadowed by larger state parks.
It offers what most local parks do. From picnic tables to beautiful surroundings, you'll love just entering the area. But, this one also features one of our favorite short hikes and we think you'll love it too.
The .9-mile out-and-back route feels a bit more like walking. But surrounded by trees and the sound of water, it still feels like a fun outdoor adventure.
As you get closer you'll find smaller falls. Things here can get slippery, so always be careful if you choose to scramble along the rocks in the brook.
Once you've enjoyed a snack and taken some photos, simply turn around and head back to your car the same way you came. And if you have the time, consider exploring the rest of the state park. It's worth it!
Wahconah Falls State Park is beautiful year-round, but spring is said to be the best time to see the waterfall flow. You can park for free here and it can be accessed from dusk to dawn. Learn more about it on the official website or head to alltrails.com to learn more about the hike.
