If you’re a true Bay Stater, you already have your own favorite place to take a dip. Whether it’s a crystal-clear lake in the Berkshires or a dazzling beach on the Cape, we tend to be pretty loyal to our tried-and-true swimming spots. No matter where in Massachusetts you call home, you should definitely carve out some time this summer to visit one (or all!) of these incredible lakes, ponds and beaches. You may just discover a new favorite.
1. Singing Beach, Manchester-by-the-Sea
This beach is more than just a pretty face. It’s home to one truly strange natural phenomenon. Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea is covered in sand that seems to "sing" or squeak when the wind moves across the shore.
While scientists haven’t completely nailed down the reason for this strange singing effect, it’s theorized that the beautiful white sand is rich in silica and composed of exceptional round sand grains. This results in the eerily beautiful sound when the wind (or your feet) rub the grains together.
Even if you don’t go for the live music, you should definitely stop by this gorgeous beach this summer to enjoy the lovely view.
