I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
While there’s always a lot of talk about sunsets, sunrises certainly don’t get the attention they deserve. Not everyone is an early riser, but sunrises can be well-worth getting up before dawn to see, especially if you know of a good place to see one. Arguably the best place to see the sunrise in Massachusetts is at the historic Old Scituate Lighthouse. Once you see a few photos of what might be in store, you start setting your alarm clocks a little bit earlier.
The year was 1810 when the U.S. Congress approved of a lighthouse to be built on Cedar Point in Scituate Harbor along the Massachusetts coast. The budget for the project was $4,000.
In 1811, the lighthouse was activated once the building of it and the attached lightkeeper's house was finished. In 1968, the Scitiate Historical Society took over the lighthouse which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
While visiting Scituate Lighthouse during the daylight hours is a must if you care for a tour, waking up early in the morning to watch the sunrise here is well worth waking up early for.
There's nothing quite like seeing the sunrise above the horizon over the water. It's quite magical to see the colors and the light changing against the water and the iconic lighthouse.
Of course, sometimes a sunrise or a sunset doesn't work out. Even the best of plans can be thwarted by Mother Nature. But the Scituate Lighthouse can still look quite striking amidst fog or storm clouds.
