12 Stereotypes About Massachusetts That Need To Be Put To Rest - Right Now
They say stereotypes always carry a grain of truth. While that’s definitely up for debate, there are a number of Massachusetts stereotypes that are just begging to be challenged. Don’t judge a book by its cover, or a Bay Stater by their license plate.

Not true. We're possibly the best drivers around. Who else could parallel park between two lawn chairs in a nor'easter? We may not be the politest of drivers, but we are incredibly effective.

Dunkin Donuts is on every corner, and yes, many of us indulge once in a while. But we know Dunks is not the cream of the crop. Marylou's is another great local chain, and we have coffee snobs here just like anywhere else.

Hate to break it to you, but most of us pronounce our "r"s. Also, we don't park our car in Hahvahd Yahd, because it would be towed. Also, there are so many more accents in Massachusetts than the classic Southie accent.

Oh please. Tanglewood, Mt. Greylock, and the Berkshires would beg to differ. Just because eastern Mass. gets all of the press, doesn't mean that the rest of the state has nothing to offer.

Okay, this one isn't entirely fiction. But for the most part, most of us couldn't really care less if you have your Yankees hat on. Live and let live...unless the Red Sox make it to the World Series. In that case, all bets are off.

So we are the bluest state in the nation. But people in Massachusetts have all sorts of political views and opinions. Don't assume someone is a democrat just because they're from Boston....okay, if they're from Boston the chances are pretty high.

Ha. We wish.

I don't can't even remember one instance where I've heard "wicked pissah" dropped in casual conversation. It just isn't done.

Some of them are, yes. But the majority of year-round residents are thoroughly middle-class and more concerned with how they're going to make it to work with all the summer traffic than they are interested in redecorating their cottage on the Vineyard.

There are literally dozens of other amazing coastal destinations along the North Shore and elsewhere. Not to mention the billions of things to do and see in the western half of the state.

We are a melting pot of identities, backgrounds, and faiths. We're proud of our diversity.

Well….okay, that one is hard to argue with.
