A Winter Getaway To Massachusetts' Snowiest Town Is Nothing Short Of Magical

The Bay State is no stranger to snow; it’s a snow belt state after all. But some towns received more snow here than others. Take, for example, Fitchburg which happens to be the snowiest town in Massachusetts. Now, that may scare some people away from visiting it in the winter, but we think you should give it a chance. Here are just a few of the things you can do in Fitchburg come wintertime.
With an average annual snowfall of over 80 inches and nearly 40 days of snow each year, Fitchburg is considered the snowiest town in Massachusetts.
But just because this town experiences more snow than any other part of the state, doesn't mean you can't have fun here during the winter months. From ice skating to winter hiking to an indoor waterpark, there's plenty of fun to be had.
Winter and ice skating go hand-in-hand. If you enjoy ice skating, there's one great place that offers it in town. And while there's no outdoor public skating, you can certainly go indoor ice skating during the public ice hours at Wallace Civic Center located on the campus of Fitchburg State.
Up for an outdoor adventure? How about a nice brisk hike or snowshoeing at Mass Audubon's Flat Rock Wildlife Sanctuary? This 326-acre preserve has six miles of trails to explore and it's absolutely beautiful covered in a blanket of snow.
In the winter months, the 250-acre Coggshall Park Mirror Lake turns into a winter wonderland. And it's worth spending some time here, especially to see the frozen lake.

Perhaps the most fun of all, Fitchburg is home to the only Great Wolf Lodge in New England. And no matter the weather, this resort with an indoor waterpark in Massachusetts is a fun place to spend some time.
Just think --- In the winter months while it's snowing in Fitchburg, you can pretend you're in a tropical paradise as you splash and play at Great Wolf Lodge's waterpark.
