We’ve been nice (and maybe a little naughty). Either way, Massachusetts is definitely deserving of some attention from the man in red. Here are some of the gifts that this state would have loved to see under the tree this year.
1. Another month of warmth.
We here in Massachusetts have been having an extremely mild winter so far. I have faith in you Santa. Don't touch that thermostat, please.
2. A white Christmas.
Though I guess we can live without it for one year.
3. Another Super Bowl win to add to the pile.
The more the merrier, after all.
4. Legal fireworks.
The state government might vote to legalize the sale of fireworks 2016. Here's to no more driving to New Hampshire for the Fourth of July! And safety! Don't forget safety!
5. More and better public transportation.
I'm looking at you, Boston T. Though really, it would be great to have more options for getting around in EVERY Massachusetts city in 2016. I'm all for state-sponsored jet packs.
6. Shorter commutes.
Because we could all use time for an extra cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee.
7. Batteries.
Because it makes Christmas morning soooo much better when you can actually play with your new toys.
8. Food for all.
No one should have to go hungry in such a bountiful and generous state as Massachusetts. Let's hope Santa gets to work making sure everyone has a full belly to look forward to in 2016.
9. Calorie-free Boston Creme Pie.
It's the state dish after all. And while he's at it, I'm just going to go ahead and ask Santa to make all desserts calorie-free for 2016. Nothing so good as Boston Creme Pie should be on the naughty list.
10. More time with family.
As you get older, you realize that the real gifts aren't sitting under the tree. They're sitting around it. It would be great if Santa managed to sneak a little more time with our loved ones onto the 2016 calendar.
11. A peek at the stars.
I know I speak for a lot of urban Bay Staters when I say that all that light pollution (not to mention the crazy pace of daily life) can really interfere with getting a glimpse of the twinkling night sky. Let's ask Santa to bring us all a few hours to take a break from our busy days and head out to nature. Or even just to our own backyards. It's good to look up and wonder sometimes.
Which of these would you want most? While we didn’t get a white Christmas, there’s still hope for another Superbowl win!
