There’s nothing quite like eating al fresco. Combine that with an amazing view and incredible ambiance and you’ve got the perfect rooftop dining experience. Check out these prime spots in Massachusetts to dine among the clouds (or closer to them, at least).
Just a heads up: this is admittedly a pretty Boston-heavy crop, as an abundance of high-rise buildings naturally lends itself to lots of rooftop dining options. However, we’ve made an effort to include a few options that aren’t in the urban center of the state.
1. Legal Harborside, Boston Seaport District
Featuring three floors of dining, this place is the largest restaurant in Boston. Check out casual menu of seafood favorites with a twist, an oyster bar, and an actual fish market. The rooftop is similarly full-featured and glorious. And look at that sushi boat!
2. Rooftop @ Revere, Boston
Besides the painfully trendy name, this place is hits all the right sky-high notes. Set atop the beautiful Revere Hotel Boston Common, this is the perfect spot to indulge in some summery drinks with friends while perched on soft cabana seating. If you're looking to cool off (it does get rather warm up there) you can even take a dip in their glass-enclosed pool. Treat yourself to some of their gourmet small plates and a panoramic view of Bay Village and the South End neighborhoods.
3. Daedalus, Cambridge
Along with truly top-notch food, you'll get a gorgeous view of Boston Harbor and a delicious salty breeze. There's a retractable roof in case of rain, so feel free to leave the umbrella at home. Try the tempura lobster roll with avocado and spicy mayo for an update on a New England classic.
4. Ocean Terrace at Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club, Brewster
This gorgeous estate overlooks Cape Cod Bay. Dine here after a long day enjoying the course.
5. Slainte Irish Pub, New Bedford
Formerly the Catwalk Bar and Grille, this place features rooftop waterfront dining and a charming outdoor bar with an Irish flavor. This spot is brand new and is still building a following in the area, but the rooftop is definitely worth a trip upstairs at Slainte. And I want to emphasize the "stairs" bit – there’s no elevator, so you’ll need to be able to climb two flights of stairs. Once you’re up there you’ll be treated to live entertainment during the summer (mostly DJs playing music) and plenty of screens to keep an eye on the big game.
6. The Wellfleet Pearl, Wellfleet
The Wellfleet Pearl offers straight-off-the boat-fresh seafood served alongside a stunning view of Wellfleet Harbor. Try the delicious pan-steamed mussels with coconut milk, pineapple, and basil.
7. The Sinclair, Cambridge
Love local music? Prefer to grab a bite before the band comes on? Head on over to The Sinclair's rooftop bar for some creative drinks and a lovely view of bustling Harvard Square below. Note: The Sinclair has regular concerts in their nightclub space, so it's the perfect spot for pre- or post-show snacks and sips.
8. Jerry Remy's, Fenway Park
You can practically smell the grass on the field from this awesome rooftop deck bar and restaurant. Stay close to the action through their gigantic TVs tuned to the game below and munch on some great game-day snacks. They also have an excellent "Athlete’s Menu" featuring lighter fare, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
9. Bokx 109 American Prime
This place will make you feel like you've wandered into a glamorous poolside scene in a hot HBO series. Premium eats and drinks (read: amazing steak) in a swanky setting.
10. Atlantic Beer Garden, Boston
Sweeping views of the harbor from the window-lined dining room & roof deck, plus TVs for game night. The Boston skyline looks stunning when viewed from the dining deck at sunset.
You should probably earn frequent flier miles for checking out all these awesome spots. Where are your favorite rooftop dining spots in Massachusetts?
