Wareham-based A.D. Makepeace Company is the world’s largest grower of cranberries, and have been producing the region’s red berries for more than 130 years. So when they opened a cranberry-themed café, locals quickly fell in love, and it’s easy to see why.
Makepeace Farms is located right about where Cape Cod joins with mainland Massachusetts, so it’s a bit of a hike for anyone not from the area, just like this remote but awesome restaurant out in western Mass. However, the tasty food and charming atmosphere are worth it. The café is not located right on the bogs, as it would be no fun to visit a restaurant submerged in a bog, but this cozy restaurant uses the delicious crops of Makepeace Farms to serve up scrumptious seasonal sandwiches, ice cream and dessert.
Makepeace Farms Café is tucked away in a beautiful red barn.
Prices here are very reasonable, especially for a small, specialty café like this. A large tea goes for $1.25, a large iced coffee will run you $2.75. The sandwiches are crammed with delicious ingredients, but are generally between $5 and $7.
If you're a fan of cranberry, this will be your new favorite spot. Cranberry pies, pastries, jams, spreads and breads are all on offer, and all made fresh.
Their sandwiches and soups are simple, yet delicious. Try the roasted turkey sandwich with swiss cheese, fresh spinach, red onion and cranberry mustard on wheat toast.
