Whenever I step foot in an old-fashioned chocolate store, my senses just come alive. I love looking at the various candies on display in the cabinets, sampling the different flavors, and succumbing to the delicious aroma of freshly made chocolate. There is just something about that smell that takes me back to the days when I was gifted Valentine’s candy and chocolate Easter bunnies. Unfortunately, these specialty shops are harder to find nowadays, but they do exist. North Easton’s Hilliards Chocolates has been making great chocolate for 100 years and is still going strong.
Hilliards Chocolate is celebrating a special birthday in 2024! The shop has now been delighting satisfied customers for a century.
A couple named Perley and Jessie Hilliard started the business in Boston back in 1924, and it is now run by the fourth generation of the Hilliard family.
Over the years, the company has operated several different stores throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. The flagship store in North Easton has been in business for almost 75 years.
The shop is located in a gorgeous old Victorian house. It was originally named Hilliards Kitch-In-Vue Candy because customers could watch the candy as it was being made.
Hilliards also has current locations in Mansfield and Norwell and does a busy online business.

Hilliards carries just about any type of chocolate that you can imagine. From caramel to fudge to bars and brittles, there is something to delight anyone with a sweet tooth.
The chocolate store also has some delicious seasonal items for the holidays. Chocolate heart pops, chocolate rose bouquets, and heart-shaped boxes of assorted chocolates are popular gifts for Valentine's Day!
To celebrate its 100th birthday, Hilliards Chocolates also has some special products, including a “Sweet Memories” centennial calendar containing beautiful pictures of the chocolate-making process.
Hilliards is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sales of this calendar to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Charles C. McCarthy, an employee and family member who was diagnosed with the condition.
They are also selling a commemorative chocolate tin containing an assortment of their favorite chocolates from years past.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of “The Originals” assortment will also benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
