As the end of the year approaches, I find that my calendar is quickly filling up with Christmas celebrations, holiday markets, and other festive events. Seasonal fun can be found in every corner of Massachusetts this year; the hard part is figuring out which events to prioritize. This year, I decided to include a magical Christmas light display on my holiday bucket list. I was fortunate to find a beautiful illumination called “Winterlights” in the little town of Stockbridge.
Winterlights is an annual holiday event that is sponsored by The Trustees. This year, it takes place on three of their beautiful properties. My family and I attended the event at Naumkeag in Stockbridge.
The other events are held at the Bradley Estate in Canton and the Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens in North Andover.
This was my first trip to Naumkeag, and to say that it was a magical experience is an understatement. Attending Winterlights was a wonderful way to kick off the Christmas season. It absolutely put me in the holiday mood.
My family had so much fun wandering around the gorgeous property and viewing all of the colorful lights and illuminated structures.

We purchased our tickets in advance and were all set to go the night of the event. There were three designated parking locations in Stockbridge. We parked in our section and a school bus shuttled us to the property.
As I stepped off the bus, I was blown away and totally mesmerized by all the beautiful sights. There were miles of lights as far as the eye could see. They were every color of the rainbow and adorned the trees, paths, and little nooks and crannies of the property. There was even a multicolor tunnel of lights.
The outside walk took about an hour to complete. We stopped several times along the way to take in the sights, snap some family photos, and warm up with a hot chocolate by the fire pit.

The event ended at the Naumkeag estate, once the summer home of lawyer Joseph Hodges Choate. We were able to take a peek inside a few of the 44 lavishly decorated rooms before we caught the bus back to our parking area.
The fun started on November 24, but there are still many more evenings to enjoy the festivities. The lights shine bright Wednesday–Sunday until January 6, 2024.
