With so many big box stores popping up all over the state, I am always happy when I discover a unique little shop where I can buy one-of-a-kind gifts. Partners Village Store in Westport and the Gift Barn in Eastham are always fun places to find something special. There is now another hidden gem of a store to add to my shopping stops. A great little store named Maple & Main recently opened in the town of Shrewsbury. Not only does the store sell great items, but it also serves another important purpose.
Maple & Main opened its doors last fall and has been in full swing ever since. The store sells apparel, candy, homemade gifts, and other fun items.
The gift shop is staffed by young adults from the RISE Program (Reaching Independence through Supported Employment). The program provides employment training and life skills opportunities for students with disabilities.
As part of their program, the RISE students have an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of running a retail store. This includes taking inventory, stocking products, and running the register.
Some students also create their own products to sell!

The store serves a dual purpose. Not only does it give the RISE students opportunities for increased independence and future job success, but it also provides the community with a unique place to shop for some pretty cool gifts.
The store has also begun hosting special events such as school vacation story times and dance parties.
Have you shopped at Maple & Main? If so, please tell us all about your visit. More information on this fantastic little shop can be found on the Maple & Main website and the Maple & Main Facebook page. While in Shrewsbury, you may also want to visit Hebert’s Candy Mansion.
