I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
We all know that Massachusetts is a stunning state. From the beaches along the coast through the breathtaking Berkshires, there’s so much beauty to take in. And what better way to see the beauty around the state than to hike to an overlook. But if you want to beat the crowds and hike to a little-known overlook in Massachusetts, there is one at a Mass Audubon refuge we think you might like.
Part of the Mass Audubon, the 855-acre High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary in Shelburne Falls offers five miles of trails and scenic views from the ledges.
The five-mile High Ledges Outer Loop and Shelburne Fire Tower trails are quite scenic. You can see wildflowers along the way in the spring and summer, plenty of wildlife, and eventually incredible vistas.
The trails are quite rugged along this moderately-traveled route, but they are well-maintained. They are also rated as moderately difficult, so be prepared and wear a sturdy pair of hiking shoes or boots.
Have you ever been to the High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary and experienced the little-known overlook in Massachusetts? Tell us in the comments if you have. For trail information, visit AllTrails, and to learn more about the wildlife sanctuary, visit the Mass Audubon website.
Another spectacular overlook worth visiting is the Mount Sugarloaf Overlook located in South Deerfield.
