Take This Easy But Breathtaking Hike To A Picturesque Massachusetts Lighthouse

Massachusetts is full of dramatic landscapes and beautiful windswept coastline. Those stony shores mean that nautical navigation can be tricky, so this state is home to plenty of lighthouses. Here’s how you can hike to one of the prettiest lighthouses in New England almost without breaking a sweat.

Just about one and a half miles from Provincetown lies one of Massachusetts’ most beautiful lighthouses. Best of all, you can hike straight to it.

Wood End Light Lookout Station first started glowing on November 20, 1872. It was built to help guide mariners into Provincetown Harbor.

Amazingly, the lighthouse is still in operation today. It’s part of the Cape Cod National Seashore and one of the most picture-perfect seaside gems in the state.

To hike to Wood End Light, all you need is a sturdy pair of shoes and at least an hour and a half to spare. Starting from Provincetown, you’ll hike along the stone breakwater for about 45 minutes.

After reaching the sandy tip of Cape Cod, you’ll need to stroll another 30 minutes through the sand to reach the gorgeous lighthouse. If you tackle this hike in the summer, come prepared with cool water and plenty of sunscreen.

The lighthouse itself is unmanned and only accessible by hike, so you’re almost guaranteed to have plenty of peace and quiet. The shining beach grass and sparkling sea are truly breathtaking.
