It’s no secret that Massachusetts is home to some of the country’s (nay, the world’s) most gorgeous beaches. We’re lucky to have miles of stunning coastline to explore. However, you probably had no idea that one of the state’s loveliest beaches is actually hiding mere moments from this charming downtown.
This gorgeous beach on Cape Cod is the best of both worlds. It offers stunning natural beauty within a few moments of a bustling downtown.
Located in Hyannis, Kalmus Beach is prized for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters. It’s surrounding by water on three sides, which makes it ideal for wind-surfing and waterspouts.
However, the best part of this beach may be that it’s only about five minutes from the heart of downtown Hyannis. That means you have tons of shopping, restaurants, and even the ferry to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard right at your doorstep.
If you get hungry, the beach operates a snack bar during the summer. It offers fresh and tasty fare like salads, sandwiches, and (of course) plenty of seafood. There are also restrooms and showers available.
The beach is incredibly spacious and has more than enough room to relax. There’s also an ample parking lot if you choose to drive, though you may just want to walk from the harbor (about 20 minutes) or bike (about six minutes).
You can also walk on to Kalmus Beach from Veteran’s Park Beach just up the coast, though beach visitors aren’t allowed to park in the memorial park’s lot. There is a fee to park for Kalmus Beach during the summer, but parking is free in the off-season.
