I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
In a state like Massachusetts, there are some long-standing restaurants that have been enjoyed for decades or even longer. We have the Union Oyster House which first opened its doors in 1826 and The Federal which was established in 1862. These are just two of many historic eateries we have around the state. One of the oldest family-owned restaurants in Massachusetts happens to be in Boston. J.J. Foley’s Cafe is a local establishment that’s worth checking out.
Located at 117 East Berkeley Street in the South End of Boston, J.J. Foley's Cafe first opened its doors in 1909. It's been owned and operated by the same family for over 110 years!
Stepping inside this Irish pub and restaurant's door is like stepping into a time capsule. You just know you're about to dine and imbibe somewhere historic.
Jeremiah Foley was the original owner of the bar. It's since been passed down through generations of the Foley family who still operates it today. This makes J.J. Foley's one of the oldest family-owned pubs in Massachusetts.
While drinks, especially the draught beer, are a big deal at J.J. Foley's, the food is nothing short of spectacular as well. The extensive menu has something for just about everyone.
If sandwiches and burgers aren't what you're in the mood for, try one of the many flatbread pizzas or an entree like the beer-battered fish and chips. Delicious!
