I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
With 192 miles of coastline, the Bay State offers plenty of trails that take hikers along the water. If you prefer to hike along the coast in Massachusetts instead of hiking in the mountains, you’re in luck! Consider going on one of the most epic coastal hikes to the end of Cape Cod.
If you've ever wanted to do a one-of-a-kind hike along the water in Massachusetts, a hike to Long Point on Cape Cod may be in order. Located at the very tip of the Cape in Provincetown, Long Point has water on both sides.
To get to the tip of Cape Cod on a hike, start out on the Long Point Dike, a 1.25-mile jetty that cuts across Provincetown Harbor. It was built in 1914.
As you make your way across, watch your footing as the terrain is made of rocks and, therefore, uneven. Proper footwear is a must. It's also best to go during low tide as part of the dike may be flooded with water.
When you make it across to Long Point, it's time to continue the hike in the sand. Just follow along the shore or a path through the beach grass and take in water views along the way.
All-in-all, this hike is approximately six miles and may take a few hours to complete. Keep in mind that trudging through sand can be difficult for some and you must come prepared. Make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen with you and take breaks whenever necessary. However, if you're able to do the hike to Long Point, it is well worth it!
