Hadley was founded by English Puritans back in 1659. They set out a simple village, a town common, and started farming.

The World Monuments Fund actually lists the "Cultural Landscape of Hadley, Massachusetts" on its watchlist of most endangered sites. There are only two other sites in the U.S. on that list.
