I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Cape Cod has long been the ultimate vacation spot for people from the Bay State, the rest of New England, and beyond. Its beaches, sand dunes, restaurants, attractions, and recreation are hard to beat. If you love spending time outdoors, here’s an itinerary filled with outdoor adventures and activities in Massachusetts:
From national parks and campgrounds to waterfalls, canyons, and more, there is so much to love about America’s natural splendor — and June, designated as Great Outdoors Month, is the perfect time to get outside.
Located in Chatham, Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge provides a critical habitat for migratory birds as well as horseshoe crabs, gray seals, and other marine and wildlife. With over 7,900 acres - including eight miles of sand stretching out into the sea - you'll have some spectacular views and understand why Cape Cod is such a special place.
Wellfleet Harbor Boat Tour with Holbrook Oyster Tours
If you want to be on the water but are looking for something different than a plain ol' boat tour, take a Wellfleet Harbor Boat Tour with Holbrook Oyster Tours.
Holbrook Oyster is an oyster farm that produces world-famous Wellfleet oysters. On the boat tour, not only will you get to see the oyster farm, beaches, and marine life, but you'll be able to shuck and enjoy some Holbrook oysters while enjoying your favorite beverage. I've done this tour and it's certainly one to remember!
Stroll in wonder along the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Trail. This boardwalk hike will take you over the swamp through a canopy of tall cedars. It's one of the best hikes in Massachusetts!
Dine at Captain’s Choice
It's all about al fresco dining here at Captain's Choice! In fact, you can choose to dine outside on the patio, the lawn, under the awning, or at the bar.
Open Thursday through Sunday, Captain's Choice offers incredibly fresh seafood dishes as well as a great selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. This is one of my favorite places to dine on the Cape and I cannot recommend the fish tacos enough -- best fish tacos I've ever had!
You'll love taking in views of Cape Cod Bay and Long Point Lighthouse from the sand. The cottage itself offers two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a private patio. While it will seem quite remote, you're actually close enough to the Cape Cod National Seashore and Provincetown where you can dine, shop, and have fun!
