Are you brave enough to try and capture evidence of the supernatural on a moonlit night? This intense ghost hunting tour will let you wander through the haunted sites of Barnstable Village and give you the chance to get hands-on with actual ghost-detecting equipment.
The Barnstable Village Ghost Hunter's Tour isn’t another cheesy tourist trap – this one is truly scary and only for the brave.
Hosted in connection with the Cape and Islands Paranormal Research Society, this ghost hunting tour is a three-hour walking experience through Barnstable Village. Your tour group will be accompanied by professional ghost hunters who will regale you with tales of the haunted happenings that seem to afflict every corner of the village. Be warned: this tour is actually scary.
You'll visit a number of haunted houses and get to use actual electronic ghost-hunting equipment.
This tour isn't just about listening to spooky stories. You'll actually get the opportunity to use digital and analog voice recorders, cameras, and sensory equipment to "detect" paranormal activity at multiple places in the village. Speaking of destinations, the tour will take you to places including a haunted cemetery, the Barnstable Court House, and the local "House of 11 Ghosts" (also known as Barnstable House).
Many people don't actually complete the tour. It's that intense.
One of the scariest spots on the tour is the terrifying "Old Jail" built in the 1690s. This former prison is supposedly one of the most actively haunted places in the country. It's the last stop, and you'll get the chance to spend twenty minutes inside the pitch-dark jailhouse listening and watching for ghosts. As you might expect, plenty of people actually leave the tour before this point due to fright.
The tour is available on select days and requires booking in advance.
The Barnstable Village Ghost Hunter’s Tour is held on Monday and Friday nights from April 16 to November 15. The tour group meets at 7 p.m. at the Old Jail on the grass. Adult tickets are $20 and child tickets (8-12 years of age) are $10. Kids under eight are free, though we don’t really recommend bringing the tots along for this one.
The meeting spot address is 3353 Main St. (6A), Barnstable, Mass. To reserve your space, call (508) 771-2725 . Check out the tour’s Cape Cod’s Haunted & History Tour Co. Facebook page for more information. If you love a good ghost story, try this haunted road trip in Massachusetts .
