The 1856 Country Store in Centerville has been around since (you guessed it) 1856. That’s a full five years before the start of the American Civil War in 1861.
It was originally built as a cranberry storage building in 1840 before transitioning to a shoe shop in 1842 and finally becoming a general store a few years later.

Things haven’t changed much at this shop in the past 150 years. The store still sells essentials like jam, honey, hardwire bits and bobs, and kitchen essentials. Plus all the penny candy you could ever wish for.
