What do you get when you combine cocktails, bright sunshine, and lots of gorgeous flowers? Besides pretty much the best day ever, you get this awesome festival happening in Massachusetts this summer. Here’s everything you need to know about the themed cocktail trail of the season.
Love flowers and tipples? You and your friends will love working your way through this summery cocktail trail that’s all about one of Massachusetts’ most luscious blooms — the hydrangea.
The Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival is an annual celebration of all things hydrangea. Cape Cod is positively lousy with this stunning blue, purple, pink, and white flowering bush, so it makes sense that there’d be an entire festival devoted to celebrating hydrangea season.
While the festival itself involves tours of private gardens, workshops on hydrangea care, and painting demonstrations, the real fun starts with the themed cocktail trail. From July 12 to 21, participating area restaurants will be serving scrumptious hydrangea-themed drinks.
That’s right — you can down creations like the "Hydrangea Delight" at Quicks Tavern in Woods Hole, the "Sparkling Hydrangea" at the Wild Goose Tavern in Chatham, or the beautiful "Frozen Blue Hydrangerita" at the Cape Codder in Hyannis.
There are more than 30 themed cocktails on offer along the trail. These special drinks will only be available until the festival ends, so you should definitely make room in your schedule (and your belly) to try some immediately.
If you can’t get enough hydrangea in your life, the festival will be running private garden tours priced at $5 per tour. Each garden is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on select days. Check the festival website (see the bottom of the article) for more details and locations.
This cocktail trail is located along the entire arm of the Cape, so you’ll want a designated driver. Grab some friends and prepare for a perfectly summer night out!
You can visit the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce website for more information about the festival and participating restaurants. For more of the best summer activities in Massachusetts, check out some of our favorites here.
