Massachusetts is filled with huge, well-known state parks, but not all of them can boast of having a romantic castle and gorgeous storybook grounds. Located in North Easton, Borderlands State Park looks like it fell out of a fairytale. Here’s everything you need to know about exploring this unique hidden spot.
Borderlands State Park looks like it dropped from the pages of a fantasy novel.
And of course, the park is home to the fabulous Ames Mansion. This historic estate was the former home of botanist Oakes Ames and his inventor wife, Blanche Ames Ames (the couple coincidentally had the same last name before marrying).
Completed almost 110 years ago in 1910, this massive mansion was the passion project of Blanch Ames. She designed the swimming pool with pipes so complicated that no-one could operate it after her death, and oversaw the planting of gorgeous rose gardens.
The mansion is open for tours, and visitors will be delighted by the dusty wooden library, luxurious artwork, and the wooden carvings of fantasy animals that line the home.
Borderlands State Park is located at 259 Massapoag Ave., North Easton, Mass. Check the park’s website for more information about visiting. Admission for Massachusetts residents is $5, while admission for non-Massachusetts residents is $10. For another gorgeous park in Massachusetts, take a look at this stunning spot.
