I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
When you pass by a place with a long line, it tends to pique your interest, causing you to wonder what might be so special that hoards of people are waiting in line. Well, some things are worth the wait and that is certainly the case at Clear Flour Bread in Brookline, one of the best bakeries in Massachusetts.
Clear Flour Bakery first opened its doors in Brookline in 1982 and has become a local favorite over the years. With a reputation of friendly service and delicious, high-quality baked goods using simple ingredients, customers flock from all over just to make a purchase. And no one seems to mind waiting in line outside just to get in and place an order!
This small family-owned bakery specializes in traditional Italian, French, and German breads and pastries. It's quite common to see a line out the door especially on weekends and around holidays.
Pictured here are soft German-style pretzels which come in a variety of flavors and are only available on Saturdays and Sundays.

A lot of care and preparation goes into making each and every item at Clear Flour Bakery. Here you can see loaves of from-scratch Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin bread being prepared.
Many hand-crafted breads are made daily while there are a few specialty breads that are made only on certain days of the week. Whether it's a baguette, rustic Italian, ciabatta, German rye, or dinklebrot you're in the market for, you will find it here.
As for pastries, the croissants are always a popular choice, and you can find them in both sweet and savory flavors. Choose from plain, chocolate, almond, ham and cheese croissant, Gruyère cheese, ham and cheese (pictured here), or spinach, egg, and cheese.
For those who have a sweet tooth, you're in luck with the delectable pastries offered here. Maple walnut scones, flourless chocolate cake, chocolate chunk cookies, and coconut macaroons are just a few options. Weekly and weekend pastry specials are offered as well.
One specialty item that regular customers look forward to in January is the Galette Des Rois which includes a fève, a ceramic figure baked right into the tart. Whoever finds the fève gets to wear the crown that comes with the Galette Des Rois.
