I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
The Bay State is just full of charming historic towns, but we are going to talk about one particular town today that could be considered “enchanting.” Oak Bluffs, located on the island of Martha’s Vineyard is one of the most charming towns in Massachusetts. One visit here and you’ll see why.
Oak Bluffs is a small town on the island of Martha's Vineyard. While it is a popular place to spend the summer, its charm makes it an ideal place to explore any time of year.
Known for its resorts, neighborhoods, gingerbread houses, and large marina, this small island town is approximately seven square miles with a population of just over 5,300 people.
Most people become quite enchanted with Oak Bluffs, especially after walking through the gingerbread village. Established as a Methodist campground in the 19th century, the brightly colored houses in this neighborhood look as though they are straight out of a fairy tale.
Of course you can't visit Oak Bluffs without visiting the East Chop Lighthouse. This stunning lighthouse can be found on a bluff above the Vineyard Sound.
As the oldest platform carousel in the country, the Flying Horses Carousel is a must-visit in Oak Bluffs. It was originally placed in Coney Island before it was moved to the island of Martha's Vineyard in 1884. It is open seasonally.
The wide two-mile stretch of sand along Nantucket Sound and Sengekontacket Pond is known as Joseph Sylvia State Beach. Come summertime, its smaller waves make it a popular beach for families.
With its historical buildings and carousel, gorgeous shoreline, and downtown area, people can't help but be enchanted by the small town of Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard.
