You don’t have to be a train enthusiast to appreciate all that Charles Ro Supply Co in Malden has to offer. There’s nothing quite like this massive store dedicated to model trains, tracks, and just about any model railroad accessory you can think of. It’s a place you will want to spend an entire day exploring.
This massive train store was started in 1972 by hobbyist Charles Ro who first began selling used trains out of a storefront in Everett. He then started purchasing trains direct from Lionel in order to sell through the mail.
Over the years, the business expanded and demand for model trains grew exponentially to the point where more space was needed. Charles Ro Supply Co then moved into a former A&P Supermarket located in Malden.
Then in the 1980s, Charles and his son began to manufacture their own garden-sized trains which were larger than the Lionel-designed trains. They achieved success with their new venture, USA Trains, and again, a bigger space was needed.
In 1989, USA Trains and Charles Ro Supply Co found their new home in a building with three floors and a whopping 50,000 square feet of space. Both the retail and mail-order sides of these businesses work out of this location today.
The retail space itself is 5,000 square feet and visitors will find a wide selection of model trains, track, apparel, scenic items for model railroads, children's toys, and a whole lot more. Merchandise is found from floor to ceiling giving you a whole lot of store to explore! Plus, there are several whimsical train layout scenes that may inspire you to do the same at home.
Occupying such a huge space, Charles Ro Supply Co became "America's Largest Train Store." It also happens to be the largest Lionel toy train and model railroad dealer in the world and has the largest selection of G, O, O27, S, HO, and N scale model trains in the country.
