Massachusetts is steeped in history. It seems like everywhere you look, there’s another historic building or landmark. This little graveyard in Boston is home to some of the state’s earliest residents, and supposedly…some of them aren’t resting in peace.

Central Burying Ground is a small graveyard in Boston. It’s one of the oldest cemeteries in the country, and may even be haunted.

First established in 1756, it holds the remains of such illustrious Bay Staters as Charles Sprague, one of the nation’s first poets; Gilbert Stuart, portrait painter to George Washington; and famed composer William Billings.

The cemetery itself is a grassy, scenic spot with large shady trees. You might find it quite peaceful. That is, unless you believe the stories.
