Nestled in the Northwest corner of the Berkshires in the small, vibrant town of North Adams, Massachusetts is a trail that begins in town and leads you to a stunning 40-foot waterfall. The 2.2-mile hike along the Cascades Trail in Massachusetts is easy enough for all skill levels, making it an ideal way to spend a few hours any day of the year.
To reach the trailhead, visitors are encouraged to park at the local YMCA and walk along Notch Brook until signs lead you to the entrance of the trail. The trail begins in a neighborhood and parking is otherwise limited on the residential streets.
Enjoy the peaceful sounds of water rushing by as you make your way to the falls. As you get close, hikers will need to walk along the rocks to the base of the falls. You may find it helpful to wear shoes that can manage water, as the rocks can sometimes be slippery!
Once you reach the falls if you’re feeling adventurous there is a more challenging climb to the right side of the waterfall. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the lush trees and smaller pools of water.
While many visitors may want to experience this trail in the warmer months of the year to witness the stunning waterfalls, Cascades Trail is accessible year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, and swimming.
If you do find yourself checking out Cascades Falls in the summer months, don’t forget to bring your swimsuit and towel for the swimming holes. A refreshing way to enjoy the gorgeous waterfall!
An absolutely beautiful hike year-round, Cascades Trail in Massachusetts is worth the adventure to see the breathtaking waterfalls. Have you been to North Adams, Massachusetts to see these magnificent falls? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section!
