Every state in this nation has something to offer, but it’s safe to say that the Bay State is really a special place. In fact, there’s plenty about Massachusetts that’s worth bragging about. Here’s why we’re uniquely awesome.
1. We gave the world the chocolate chip cookie.
The chocolate chip cookie was actually invented right here in Massachusetts. We have the Toll House Restaurant in Whitman to thank for this classic dessert.
2. We’re pretty much a breeding ground for legendary music.
Massachusetts has produced musical greats such as Aerosmith, The Pixies, The Cars and The Modern Lovers. And more amazing acts are being born every day.
3. We rank number one in education in the country.
As of 2018, Massachusetts has ranked as the top state for education in America. We have some of the top-performing public, private, and charter schools in the country, not to mention world-class universities like Harvard and MIT.
4. We’re the healthiest state in the nation.
The United Health Foundation has ranked the Bay State as the healthiest state in the nation. The UHF cited Massachusetts’ nearly universal health insurance as a driver behind the great score, as well as residents’ good access to primary care and more mental healthcare providers.
5. Massachusetts is one of the best places to retire.
According to a new report from Bankrate.com, Massachusetts is one of the top ten places in the country to rewire due to its "cultural vitality" and amazing health care quality.
6. Our sports teams are the best around.
We may not win every game, but we come close.
7. Basketball was invented here in the Bay State.
Basketball has its roots in Springfield, where a gym teacher named James Naismith invented the game in 1891 when his class was confined indoors due to rain.
8. We have a world-renowned art scene.
From the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to MASS MoCA, which is the largest center for contemporary visual and performing arts in America, this state is packed with creativity.
9. It's one of the best places to raise a family.
In 2017, MONEY named Arlington, Mass. as one of the top ten best places to raise a family in the country. Niche.com also lists Massachusetts as one of the best states overall in which to raise children.
10. We have some of the best people in the world.
There's no way to prove this one empirically, of course, but anyone who has lived in the Bay State for a while knows it's the truth.
