There are some experiences and activities that are just part of life when you’re a Bostonian. From fun to frustrating, most locals will have done these 14 things at least once:
1. Strolled by the Charles River.
We're lucky to have easy access to the Charles River Reservation, a 20-mile-long, waterfront green space. This is one of many parks scattered throughout the city and it's a favorite of many Bostonians.
2. Been to Fenway.
Even those who moved here from another state and started life with different sports allegiances can admire the oldest ballpark in the MLB.
3. Gotten overly invested in a sports game.
Some may say overly, but we'd say appropriately ; it's all a matter of perspective but, regardless of the sport, fans here have team devotion down.
4. Eaten ice cream or consumed iced coffee when it was really cold outside.
Some things are still appealing, come rain or polar vortex.
5. Stood in line at Dunks.
Well, if the line's too long, we can walk a few blocks in any direction and find an alternative location.
6. Debated the merits of clams.
Whether it's a head-to-head
chowder contest or an argument about which eatery dishes up the best fried clams, indifference isn't an option.
7. Dealt with street hazards…
...whether it be potholes that could double as Hellmouths or cobblestones in the dark.
8. Been the road hazard.
From driving sideways because we're several lanes over from the one we need, to treating our blinker like it's ornamental, we've all been the "Masshole" at least once.
9. Went candlepin bowling.
Smaller ball, same number of pins. This version requires much more skill that chucking a regular-sized bowling ball down a lane.
10. Celebrated St. Paddy's Day with fervent enthusiasm.
Likely more than once!
11. Protested something.
Pick a cause. Pick a Common (Boston, Cambridge). Bring a sign. We're not shy about sharing how we feel about events on the world stage.
12. Acted in defiance of the weather.
Some call this kind of behavior crazy, but those folks aren't as tough as the average Bostonian. Bomb cyclone? Well, the dog still needs walking and that snow isn't going to shovel itself.
13. Thinking spring will never come.
It's on it's way... eventually. It probably just got stuck in traffic on Storrow Drive.
14. Seen a view like this and been reminded of why we choose to make Boston our home!
How could anyone look at this and not be spellbound by its beauty? We feel incredibly lucky to call Boston our home.
How many of these oh-so-Bostonian things have you done? What else would you add to the list? Share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!
