I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
The weather is warming up and plans for the warmer months are starting to come together. Whether you are headed to the magnificent mountains or the beautiful beaches, there’s plenty to see and do come summertime in the Bay State. If you don’t yet have plans, why not add a visit to Edgartown, perhaps the best warm-weather town in Massachusetts, to your agenda this year?
Welcome to Edgartown! Located on the stunning island of Martha's Vineyard, the best way to get here is via the Falmouth-Edgartown Ferry Service. You'll board the vessel and enjoy an hour-long ferry ride into Edgartown Harbor.
Edgartown is the oldest settlement on the island of Martha's Vineyard and, during the 18th century, it was a whaling port. Today, the town is a popular summer tourist destination.
From pristine beaches, like South Beach pictured here, to Main Street where visitors can shop at independently-owned boutiques and dine at several local eateries, Edgartown is an ideal destination during the summer.
Part of Edgartown is Chappaquiddick Island which is accessible via the Dyke Bridge or a two-minute, 527-foot ferry ride. It's like entering another world. Visit The Chappy Ferry website to learn more.
Located on Edgartown's Chappaquiddick Island is Mytoi Japanese Garden, a place of quiet and serenity to escape the summer crowds. This 14-acre preserve is filled with both native and exotic plants and it is absolutely worthwhile to spend some time here. Learn more about Mytoi Japanese Garden in our previous coverage.
Of course, you must try the seafood while you're in town. The Seafood Shanty (pictured here) is a seasonal eatery that, not only offers fresh seafood dishes but has some of the best waterfront views in town.
Dine in the dining room or out on the deck and have yourself a lobster roll or another delectable fish dish. Eating here is quite an enjoyable experience! Visit The Seafood Shanty website for more information.
