Massachusetts is filled with amazing places to camp (we’ve covered some of the best here), but this spot just may be one of the most stunning. Horseneck Beach State Reservation is located in Westport and offers amazing on-beach campsites that will blow you away.
With over 100 spots to pitch your tent, this beachy campground is one of the most popular oceanside camping sites in the state. However, this doesn’t mean it’s crowded. There are over 600 acres of barrier beach and lush wilderness to explore at this reservation. You’ll be treated to stunning views of Buzzards Bay as you explore over two miles of pristine beach.
The scenery at this location makes it a camping destination like no other. You can emerge from your tent in the morning to see a spectacular sunrise spread over the glittering waves, or roast marshmallows around the campfire with a view of the moonlight painting the sea beyond the dunes. The beach is breezy all year, so you’ll find relief here from boiling inland temperatures. The salty air and calls of the seagulls will completely relax you.
Beyond just enjoying the view, there’s plenty to do at Horseneck Beach Reservation. You can swim in the clear waters, build sandcastles, fish, surfcast or get lost in a good book. The campground also offers basketball and volleyball courts, and there’s even a playground where the kids can romp while the grownups enjoy the blissful serenity of the ocean views. If you want to explore further, be sure to check out the walking trails on Gooseberry Neck.
Amenities here include a full comfort station with flush toilets and hot showers. Each individual campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a grill, so you can cook dinner right on the beach.
The campsites are located just behind the dunes near Gooseberry Neck. You may want to bring watersheds with you, as some parts of the shore are more cobblestone than sand. Click here to reserve your campsite and learn more about this spectacular spot.
