Massachusetts is one of the best places in the country to get delicious maple syrup, but did you know that this homegrown sweet treat can do more than just top your pancakes? The Hardwick Vineyard and Winery offers a delightful springtime event that lets you indulge in real maple wine in a historic setting. Here’s how it works.
Hardwick Vineyard and Winery is a beautiful spot located on a peaceful rural road that bends around the Quabbin Reservoir in the town of Hardwick. The estate has been around since George Washington’s days in 1795, but it’s only been a vineyard since about 1997.
Today, the estate has been lovingly resorted to its original 18th-century glory and is a truly gorgeous spot to visit. Every Saturday in March, the vineyard hosts their Maple Barn Breakfast event. This is a celebration of maple season in Massachusetts and it’s an event for the whole family.
Seatings for this mouthwatering brunch take place at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. each Saturday. The meal features a variety of special maple wine drinks that will warm your spirit, as well as fluffy pancakes and other classic breakfast fare. You’ll also be able to browse yummy maple products like candy and syrup.
So what’s maple wine? As you’d expect, it’s wine made with real maple syrup and is totally amazing. Picture a semi-sweet white wine with hints of warm maple flavor. It’s delicious down to the last drop and the perfect way to celebrate the approach of spring.
Besides the grub, visitors can check out oxen and blacksmith demonstrations, enjoy live music, get their faces painted, and more. Local vendors will also be on hand peddling handmade goods, and hayrides will be on offer if the weather permits.
