Are you a city-dweller looking to escape into nature? Then the Acton Arboretum may be the perfect retreat. Located near Boston but pretty enough to be a day trip destination for Bay Staters everywhere, this lovely complex of gardens and trails is just begging to be visited.
The Acton Arboretum is a little slice of natural beauty located in Acton, which is just outside Boston.
Stop by the Butterfly Garden to see butterflies floating through the air or swing by the wildflower garden to relax in the company of hundreds of blooms.
There’s also an herb garden, rhododendron garden, fragrance garden, and grape arbor. They’re all perfect spots to wander and sit awhile amongst the greenery.
The Orchard Loop, Wildflower Loop, and Highland/Bog Loop will take you through some of the arboretum’s best features. They range in length from 0.2 miles to 0.7 miles and feature plenty of scenic spots to linger.
You’re welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy among the trees and flowers. Benches and picnic tables are provided, but keep in mind that alcohol is not permitted.
Many trails and gardens at the arboretum are handicap accessible. Handicap parking is available at the Taylor Road entrance, Minot Avenue entrance, and the Acton Town Hall. Visit the Acton Arboretum website for more information about visiting rules, hours, and current events.
