You know you’ve thought about it before… Whether you’re a fan of the popular television show The Walking Dead, or a lover of cult classic zombie films like Night Of The Living Dead, you’ve probably wondered what you would do in the event of an actual zombie outbreak. While we can never truly know how a hypothetical situation such as this would happen, it’s always good to have a few ideas in the back of your mind… just in case.
Here are 8 places in Maryland perfect for hiding out in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
This abandoned fort is located in the Patapsco River and according to most zombie lore, zombies cannot swim. You'd most likely be safe at this spot. Just make sure to have boats on hand for trips to the shore for supplies, as well as for a speedy getaway in case your fellow inhabitants become infected.
Similar to Fort Carroll, Smith Island is surrounded by water. Even better however, is the superb fishing and crabbing in the area that could potentially keep all survivor's bellys full. Again, you'd have to be careful when traveling to the main shore when supplies run low.
One of the top rules of surviving the zombie apocalypse is to STAY AWAY FROM CITIES. A potential zombie virus would spread through highly populated areas quickly. This is why western Maryland is the perfect place to hide out for survival. There is also plenty of wildlife here so hunting for meat wouldn't be an issue.
Home of the state capital and US Naval Academy, this city has the potential to be highly guarded and protected, thus keeping you safer. The population of the area however, could cause things to go downhill FAST.
A few months into the zombie apocalypse you'll start to run out of food. That's why the hundreds of miles of farmland in St. Mary's county could very well save lives. Cross your fingers that someone in your group has a green thumb, because growing crops full of veggies and fruit could mean the difference between life and death.
This fort located in Washington County, has high stone walls to keep survivors in and zombies out. It also lies next to Big Pool Lake which could be an excellent resource for fishing.
This giant campus is in Bethesda and is home to one of the best medical research centers in the world. If there's a vaccine for the zombie virus, you could most likely find it here.
No doubt that tons of people will flock to the place that inspired the Star Spangled Banner, Fort McHenry. Now a national park, the structure of the fort has potential to keep out unwanted zombies and it would be quite easy to set up a perimeter of armed men at all times. Plus, who wouldn't feel a bit safer with the stars and stripes waving overhead at all times?
