There are hundreds of hiking trails in Maryland , from short treks to all-day adventures. The following hike in the Old Line State is on the shorter side but it has a HUGE payoff — it leads to one of the best overlook views around! Read on for more information, lace up your hiking boots, and prepare for one beautiful journey.
Today we're heading to Weverton Cliffs, which is located in Washington County.
The cliffs here are nestled along the Potomac River, making for a worthwhile view.
From the parking lot, turn right, and then walk until you see a bunch of stone steps -- that's where the 1.9-mile trail begins.
Although the hike to reach the overlook is technically under 2-miles, it's not easy. This trek is rated moderate for its uneven ground, including tree roots...
...unstable rocks, and slopes. Be sure to wear shoes with good tread.
Along the way, you'll enjoy the woodland sights, wildflowers, and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, too. Hello, Mr. Turtle!
Be aware that this is also a pretty popular hike. You may want to mask up when unable to maintain social distancing.
Once you reach the top, the view is absolutely breathtaking.
Even during wintertime, the sprawling views of the mountains and river will have you wanting to sit and stay awhile...
...or hang awhile.
