There’s no denying which state park has the most impressive waterfalls in Maryland. Swallow Falls State Park is loved by many, not only for its natural wonders, but also for its unique layout. Check out this one of a kind hike that’s short in distance and oh-so scenic. It even includes a staircase right next to the falls for the best views!
Swallow Falls State Park is located in western Maryland -- Oakland to be exact. It's mostly known for the pictured Muddy Creek Falls, which is easily accessible.

It's a short and gravel-filled walk to the falls from the parking lot. What makes this natural wonder so unique is the number of ways you can view it.
While many waterfalls are hard to reach and can only be photographed from afar (or from a strenuous climb), Muddy Creek Falls has a staircase right next to it where you can get the best views.

Walk up and down to the stairs to see which angle is picture perfect...

...and then snap away! The staircase is in the perfect spot for a beautiful waterfall backdrop photo.
Or head to the bottom and take a group shot on a boulder! Just be careful because things can get slippery.

Then, step off the bottom of the staircase and make your way along the 1 1/4 mile woodland trail that follows along the Youghiogheny River. The hike is bumpy so be sure to wear shoes with good tread.
