Riverwalk Park Is Frederick, MD's Best Destination For Family Fun

Frederick, Maryland is considered to be one of the coolest small towns in America. And why not? It’s packed with fun things to do, interesting shops and restaurants, and a downtown full of history. And perhaps not surprisingly, Frederick also happens to be home to some fantastic parks that show off just how scenic and beautiful the landscape in this rural area of Maryland can be. One of those happens to be Riverwalk Park, which is ironically not near the actual riverwalk in Frederick, but has so many options for outdoor activity that are perfect for a quiet day in the summer breeze with the whole family!

Riverwalk Park is not very far from downtown, but it is just separate enough from the main city that it often remains quiet and picturesque all during the day. It’s tucked away nicely in a suburban part of town, but also remains easy to find.

There are several shaded picnic areas speckled along the trails of the park, which are perfect little oases of shade where you can settle down with your lunch and enjoy the summer breeze.

There are lots of play areas and jungle gyms around for the kids, like this one where dreams of space travel can come true.

One of the coolest amenities Riverwalk Park offers is this huge roller hockey rink, complete with nets and boards. It’s so much fun to zip around the arena on the smooth concrete and it makes for some old-school family fun in the sun!

Of course, if you haven’t brought your roller blades and hockey sticks along, there are several baseball diamonds. Playing some catch or a game of 500 out here is sure to create or stoke nostalgic memories for everyone involved.

Riverwalk Park also has miles of trails that run from the banks of the Monocacy River all the way to the fringes of downtown, so you can explore everything the city of Frederick has to offer in one beautiful walk through the woods!
