Not many people know that Calvert Marine Museum is also home to underwater creatures. While there are far less than the National Aquarium, you'll still be wowed by the animals and have fun learning about their natural habitat.


Monocacy Battlefield is a bit quieter than Antietam, and also offers sprawling rural views. Be sure to check out the many historic homes on the grounds that are full of charm.


Also in Western Maryland, New Germany State Park has a gorgeous lake and cabins available to rent. Check it out at least once.

If it's water views and boats you seek, then head over the bridge to the small town of Oxford. This historic spot is underrated with its quaint beach, boutiques, and ferry rides.

Calvert Cliffs is a must-do at least once, but it can get overcrowded during warmer months. Instead, head to the little known Matoaka Beach which also has white clay cliffs full of fossils.

Nothing beats the Ocean but Sandy Point State Park is also splendid on a summer day. Meander up and down the beach while taking in views of the Bay Bridge. It's best to get here early.
