If you’ve lived in Maryland for a while or often travel around the state, then you’ve most likely encountered the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. While this jaw-dropping bridge is a mere daily commute for some, others are unnerved by this sprawling structure, and have trouble driving over it. Read on to learn more about this amazing, and somewhat scary, Maryland bridge.
Maryland's Bay Bridge is a two-part structure that crosses the Chesapeake Bay.
What makes many travelers nervous about crossing this bridge is its length, at 4.3 miles. Also, the fact that its highest point is a whopping 186 feet above the water.
What's even more unnerving about this structure is that through the decades, there have been several suicide jumpers. There has also been a few incidences of vehicles flipping over the side.
Not to worry- as long as you stay in your lane and take it slow, you should be just fine. Be aware of your surroundings, as most accidents on this bridge have been caused by drivers not paying attention.
If you are still nervous about crossing the bridge, there is a service that will drive your vehicle across for you. You can find more information about that here .
There's no doubt that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is one of Maryland's most magnificent marvels. If you can put your nerves aside, its scenic setting can be enjoyed from up close, and even more so from afar.
