Enchanting hike in Maryland , anyone? This short trek in the Old Line State is great for any age, with many reviewers stating that it’s even easy for kids. It leads to a one-of-a-kind Maryland overlook from atop of a monument. Check out the details below and add this spot to your bucket list this year!
Today's adventure takes us to Washington Monument State Park in the Middletown / Boonsboro area.
This park is home to the very first Washington Monument, built in honor of President George Washington.
The half-mile out-and-back hike features plenty of woodland views along the way. It takes about 20 minutes or so to reach the monument, but be aware that much of the short hike is uphill.
Soon, you'll reach The Washington Monument, which is a 40-foot-tall tower that looks like it's straight out of a fairytale. Your kids might even think it's a castle!
The best part is that you can enter the tower, climb up the spiral staircase, and...
...enjoy this view from the top!
While soaking in the scenery, you can also read up on what landmarks you may spot from your perch, and which birds you may witness flying around.
If you're wanting to extend your adventure further, then simply hop on the nearby Appalachian Trail. This scenic spot is a must-visit, whether just for the historic monument, or for the many more nature-infused areas all around.
