Rocky Gap Canyon State Park is a treasure trove of natural attractions in western Maryland. It’s the perfect destination for those looking for a unique adventure or perhaps just lounging on the shores of the man-made Lake Habeeb.
You can start your adventure at the Tough of Natural Trail Parking Lot, photographed below. From there, you can take a quick detour to the Rocky Gap Overlook Trail to admire the canyon.
From the paved road, it will take approximately five minutes to reach the overlook. You’ll climb a flight of stairs and will shortly arrive at this marvelous overlook. Keep trekking, though, because the view from the mountain summit is arguably even more beautiful!
The next noteworthy encounter will be the Mason Dixon Marker. This historic landmark is definitely worth finding. Just a few hundred feet beyond the marker awaits the overlook.
