From beaches to lakes and more, Maryland is abundant with bodies of water. Check out the following rivers that are far from ordinary and are perfect for a day trip.
1. Potomac River
The mighty Potomac is approximately 405 miles in length. There are several spots where you can view its beauty but Great Falls is a favorite.
2. Youghiogheny River
This 134 mile long river runs through parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and of course Maryland. Check it out at Swallow Falls State Park where it flows through Muddy Creek Falls and Swallow Falls.
3. Susquehanna River
At over 400 miles in length, this scenic river passes through several states. A favorite spot to view it in Maryland is at Conowingo Dam, as it's a well known feeding place for bald eagles.
4. Patuxent River
This river stretches through several Maryland counties. There are historic truss bridges along the way, making for charming views.
5. Sassafras River
This eastern shore river is sprinkled with wetland views. There are also several creeks along the way worth checking out.
6. Nanticoke River
This sprawling river can best be viewed from Roaring Point (pictured). It's a perfect place for exploring during summer.
7. Casselman River
This river runs through Pennsylvania as well as Maryland. Head to Casselman River Bridge State Park in the western region to view it from the old National Road.
8. Patapsco River
You most likely are familiar with the Patapsco River as it forms Baltimore's Inner Harbor and beyond. It also flows throughout parts of the picturesque Patapsco Valley State Park.
9. Severn River
If you've ever been to Annapolis, then you've seen the stunning water views of Severn River. It also winds through 14 more miles of the area, making for some epic fishing spots.
10. Choptank River
This river twists through several eastern shore towns. Most like to view it from the Choptank River Lighthouse in Cambridge.
11. Elk River
Found in Maryland's northeast region, this river is a pretty sight. Check it out from Elk Neck River State Park for scenery to remember.
12. Chester River
The delightful town of Chestertown borders this river where you can see historic ships. Continue following the river's 43 miles for more serene spots that are perfect for kayaking.
13. Wicomico River
This eastern shore river pairs perfectly with its rural surroundings. It's a little slice of paradise right here in the state.
14. Gunpowder River
Venture to Gunpowder Falls State Park to view the calming rapids of this river. It's also a great place for hiking.
15. Miles River
If you've ever been to St. Michaels, then you've taken in the views of Miles River. Boaters love this spot for its smaller span (13 miles), and peaceful sunsets.
