There’s an exciting event making its way to Maryland that promises three days full of train and water-themed festivities, music, and food, all in the beautiful setting of Cumberland. Scheduled for September 7th – 9th, the first annual River & Rails Festival will serve as the kick off for the River Park at Canal Place Project and celebrate Western Maryland Scenic Railroad‘s 30th anniversary in a big way. From fireworks to a movie under the stars, this gathering has something for everyone.
The beloved Western Maryland Scenic Railway is celebrating its 30th anniversary and you won't want to miss out.
The festival will serve as a fundraiser for the River Park at Canal Place Project, a concept that will result in a vibrant recreational park along the North Branch of the Potomac River.
After the concert, there will be a movie under the stars. Be sure to pack a blanket and some snacks as you prepare to watch "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."
Saturday will kick off with an early morning bike ride versus diesel engine challenge, followed by enlightening train displays, short kayak trips on C&O Canal Basin, a tug-of-war contest, fishing demonstrations, children's activities, and all-day live music with plenty of food and drink vendors.
Saturday evening will conclude with "Ole 97," a Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute Band, followed by a dazzling fireworks display presented by Starfire Corporation.
On Sunday, there will be relaxing activities such as an interfaith service, inspirational speakers, and live music. Concluding the festival will be an outdoor yoga session by Mountain Moon Yoga & Fitness.
