I’m always on the hunt for little known restaurants and wow, did I find a hidden gem this time. Although the following restaurant is off the beaten path for most Marylanders, it’s worth the drive for those who appreciate a family atmosphere with friendly service and homemade cooking.
Coal Bucket Restaurant is located in Kitzmiller, Maryland. With a population of under 500 residents and covering just 0.25 square miles of area, this town is tiny, to say the least.
What Kitzmiller lacks in size it makes up for in rustic scenery, including surrounding mountain views. The Coal Bucket Restaurant is nestled in the perfect spot here, welcoming locals and passersby with a charming dining experience.
Have a seat and the cozy atmosphere will immediately make you feel right at home.
Menu items include classic American cooking like biscuits and gravy, homemade waffles, hamburgers and more. Dessert options get quite festive around each and every holiday, and that's only the beginning...
Coal Bucket Restaurant's entire upstairs area has been transformed into a crafty gift shop.
It gets even better during Christmastime when you can purchase country-themed holiday decor.
Santa also makes an annual visit to the restaurant, reading to children and igniting the holiday spirit in all.
The yearly holiday window displays are also worth seeing, whether it's during Christmas...
...or Halloween.
The charm continues with a visit to the old-fashioned candy counter. If you're passing through, why not pick up some Milk Duds for the road?
End your visit by checking out the restaurant's charming tribute to the town history.
What makes this spot so special is that it's so much more than just a restaurant. This place makes sure their guests have a fun and festive time, every time. You may have never heard of it before, but be sure to put it on your radar!
Address:
238 W Main St
Kitzmiller, MD 21538
