Hello! I was born and raised in Toronto, lived in Miami for a decade, attended the Miami International University of Art & Design, and have resided in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, for the past 15+ years. I enjoy traveling all over the United States, Canada, and Europe - though I have a great appreciation and love for the southeastern parts of the US in particular. My past expertise lay in hospitality in the restaurant and retail world. Aside from writing, I now run an Airbnb in my home and sling vintage, so I'd like to think this all helps me with what it takes to find the best restaurants, lodging, and fun things to do and see in your state. I am an avid reader, love exploring the arts, and discovering the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Nice to meet you!
Transport yourself to a bygone era with this old-fashioned Christmas festival in Maryland, where history comes to life on the charming Main Street of Chestertown. Step back into the enchanting setting of 1840s London, just as Charles Dickens envisioned it during the holiday season. Dickens of a Christmas is a two-day extravaganza that promises a delightful array of activities, from enchanting carriage rides and captivating entertainment to guided home tours, mouthwatering culinary delights, engaging book discussions, a treasure trove of merchandise, and, of course, the chance to immerse yourself in the festive spirit by donning your Dickensian attire!
This year’s event will take place December 1 – 2, 2023.
Relax in the cozy ambiance of crackling bonfires, and later, as the night unfolds, head over to enjoy the fantastic melodies of talented local musicians.
The fun continues on the second day with the Run Like the Dickens 5K race. And don't forget to drop by and say hi to Santa in the morning – he's all ears for kids' Christmas wishes. You can also check out the Chestertown Farmers' Market, where you'll find vendors selling stuff that's Victorian-inspired, Dickens-themed, or made the old-fashioned way.
Keep the festivities going with the Holiday House Tour, a delightful opportunity to wander through beautifully decorated homes, each radiating a warm and joyous charm.
Make sure to deck yourself out in your finest Victorian outfits, then swing by the food vendors and beverage tents. They're serving up delightful treats like hot cider, mulled wine, a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, and more. I just love all the Dickens-themed attire - don't you? The town really goes all out!
And end your Dickens of a Christmas experience on a high note with the rockin' headline acts on the Main Stage.
In a nutshell, the Dickens of a Christmas festival is all about spreading holiday cheer, embracing old-fashioned traditions, and having a jolly good time. So, head down to Chestertown and get into the festive spirit!
