The following park is not only enchanting, but it also boasts historical attributes and similarly resembles a popular franchise. You’ll want to check out the one place in Maryland that looks like something from Middle Earth.
Located in Jefferson, you'll find the uniquely historic Gathland State Park.
The grounds were once home to George Alfred Townsend, a Civil War journalist. Townsend constructed several buildings here in the 1800s and their remnants remain.
Many of the remaining buildings and ruins look like they're straight out of a story book, specifically, Lord of the Rings. This little hut is reminiscent of a hobbit dwelling or pub.
Some structures are more weathered than others. The crumbled ruins add a certain charm to this wooded area.
Enchanting archways appear as you continue on your Middle Earth exploration around the park.
Old stonework lies in the most unexpected places. The contrast of centuries-old ruins and lush green plants is an other-worldly scene.
